It's 'Boutta Get REAL

Why K² Coffee Company? If you're new here, let me tell you a little story. My name is Beth Dean. My husband (James) & I have five children: Jay, Krysta, Kira, Zane & Gabriel.

Our family suffered a devastating loss on December 20, 2023 when our brilliant girls, Krysta (18) & Kira (16) were killed in an auto accident. Their cousin (& Kira's best friend) Molly was injured, but is (at the time of this post) recovering. You will find that I am purposely vague on the details of their death so, respectfully, please don't ask. That is not the element of our baby girls that is important or the one we want to focus on. What is of most importance is how they lived. How vibrant & full of personality they are. You may also notice that I don't always speak of them in past tense. That is also on purpose. To us, the family and friends who deeply love them, they are very much present in our lives, our hearts & our thoughts. They didn't stop being everything they were when they left this earth; they just moved to a new home for a time.

This blog is going to be a place where we share pictures and snippets into what makes Krysta ("Kai" to her friends) & Kira so special, but for now I want to focus on K² Coffee. About a month before Krysta's passing, she expressed to me that she would love to own a coffee shop. She had been talking about it for some time with her brother, Jay, who is one of her very best friends. When she and I began talking about it, we determined that a coffee cart would be the best start for her to gain experience and find out if a full-blown coffee shop was really where her heart would be happiest. We were going to put it in the courtyard outside my business in Warm Springs. The agreement was that she would graduate high school, take some classes, get some certifications & I would help her through the rest of the process. Sadly she didn't get the chance to do any of these things.

As her parents, James and I couldn't stand the thought of the girls missing out on so many things, not to mention the things we miss out on with them: graduation, further education, accomplishments, moves, weddings, children, grandchildren...there's so much we have lost and are still mourning as a family (when I say family, I'm not just talking about me and James, but also the girls' brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins & friends) . We decided there's something, however modest, we can do about that and this mobile coffee shop is one of them.

How does Kira fit into this since the coffee shop was Krysta's dream? Because Kira loves everything coffee. Iced coffee, blended coffee, hot coffee, coffee with hot chocolate - she loves it all. We couldn't go anywhere without Kira grinning wickedly & asking, "Starbucks? Black Rifle? Coffee - somewhere - PUH-LEASE?" Ask anybody who knew them and they'll tell you that our 3 oldest children are BEST FRIENDS, & they would have all supported each other in anything they wanted to do. Which means Kira would have been there right alongside Krysta working & drinking her profits, haha! We went through a lot of coffee, milk & cream in our house just because Kira wanted to experiment with coffee recipes.

I have numerous pictures and videos of them either with coffee, mentioning coffee, or acting crazy due to coffee, lol. Over time we'll share them with you. For now, just know that this coffee truck we're starting is completely in honor of these precious girls & nearly everything about it will be centered around what they would have wanted/liked/enjoyed. From the culture and energy we hope to curate, to the recipes, to the very names of the menu options - all of it is a tribute to the vibrant spirits of our baby girls, our "K2." (Pictured, Kira in the red dress, Krysta in the black dress).

Please follow our socials (Facebook here, Instagram here, TikTok to come) &/or sign up for our newsletter from this website to receive updates about where we are in the process. We do not have a launch date at this time, but we are quickly rolling through the long to-do list to get our cats in a row. We will make updates on socials often as we get closer to an official opening date. Thank you for rolling with us on this journey. We love hearing your memories of our girls so if you have any pictures, videos or stories you'd like to share, please feel free to share them on our K² Coffee Facebook Page.

With Gratitude,

Beth
